User-Generated Content, UGC, has been around, well, forever, but went mainstream 25 years ago when brands recognized its potential. For engaging audiences and winning earned media content points. Oh, and money. Almost 90% of brands use UGC for as free content.
America’s Funniest Home Videos, which features homemade videos submitted by viewers (so UGC), is going into its 33rd season in October. But before that, Ring and MGM are releasing a half-hour show called, “Ring Nation” in September.
Amazon owns both Ring and MGM. Here’s what Associate Press had to say about that.
Early reports are it’s a “daily dose of life’s unpredictable, heartwarming and hilarious viral videos,” shared by people from their own doorbell cameras. So great UGC.
Anyway, you know what they say. Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them. And sometimes, apparently, it comes when the doorbell rings. BTW, Shakespeare generated most of that!
